Development Tester (Gaming)

  • Indefinite
  • Full time
  • Hybrid (1050-191, Lisbon, Lisbon, Portugal)
  • Gaming Studio

At Studio Ellipsis, we believe polish isn’t a phase—it’s a mindset. We’re a small, elite team dedicated to crafting worlds where every interaction feels intentional and every system works seamlessly.

We’re looking for a sharp-eyed, deeply curious Development Tester to embed within our team and help us build better, faster, and smarter. You’ll be the first line of defense against bugs and instability, working side by side with developers to test features as they’re built and keep the game stable throughout production.

This isn’t a traditional QA role. You won’t just test the final product—you’ll work directly in the development process, catching issues early, validating fixes, and keeping delivery smooth and continuous.

Key Responsibilities

Test new features and systems as they’re developed—finding bugs early and preventing regressions.

  • Collaborate closely with engineers, designers, and artists to reproduce issues, debug problems, and validate fixes.
  • Champion build stability by testing integrations, monitoring commits, and supporting branching strategies that keep the team moving while locking down key builds.
  • Maintain clear, detailed bug reports and ensure nothing slips through the cracks.
  • Use development tools, debug consoles, and internal commands to verify functionality at a deep level.
  • Organize, set focus for, and support internal and external playtests.
  • Define test plans and coordinate with external QA partners to uphold quality across all phases of the project.
  • Work across disciplines to maintain a high bar for quality, performance, and reliability.

You Are

  • A natural problem-solver with 3+ years of experience in game testing, QA, or embedded development support.
  • Familiar with modern game engines (e.g., Unreal Engine, Unity) and the realities of game production.
  • Hands-on with dev builds, debug tools, and version control systems (Perforce, Git, etc.).
  • Clear and precise in your communication—you write bug reports no one misunderstands.
  • Adaptable and proactive—you don’t just log problems, you dig into them.
  • Passionate about games and relentless about quality.
  • Calm under pressure and energized by fast-moving development environments.

Bonus Points

  • Previous work embedded in development teams (not just QA departments).
  • Understanding of platform certification requirements (console, mobile, PC).
